Beasiswa PhD Scholarship at The University of Queensland Australia
Label: Australia Scholarship, beasiswa, Beasiswa PhD, Queensland2 PhD Scholarships in Biomaterials for Cochlear Implants
The University of Queensland With Cochlear Ltd and Aortech Pty Ltd
PhD Scholarships in Biomaterials – Next Generation Insulation for Cochlear Implants Currently, soft silicone materials are employed as insulation for implantable Cochlear electrode arrays. However
these materials have limited tensile properties and tear resistance,
thereby significantly hampering the scope for new and more complex
electrode array designs. The central aim of this project is to explore
new insulation materials with similar flexibility, biocompatibility,
biostability and electrical insulation to silicone, but with far
superior tensile and tear strength.
This will be achieved through the development of biomedical
polyurethane nanocomposites via a collaboratively- conceived and
executed project featuring significant cooperation between researchers
at UQ, Cochlear Ltd (Sydney) and Aortech Biomaterials (Melbourne). PhD
1 will have a strong polymer synthesis and processing focus, involving
the preparation of nanocomposites by various processing methods and
understanding structure-property relationships. PhD 2 will be more
concerned with biostability and biological interactions of the novel
materials and their various components.
The project team (and supervisors) includes: A/Prof Darren Martin, Prof Rod Minchin and Prof Peter Halley from The University of Queensland;
Dr Martin Svehla from Cochlear Ltd and Dr Ajay Padsalgikar from Aortech Biomaterials Pty Ltd. This project is funded by Cochlear, Aortech and the NHMRC.
Requirements: B.Eng., B.Sc. or Masters Degree in Materials or Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biology or Biomedical Engineering.
Remuneration: Stipend – APA equivalent (tax-free and indexed) for 3 yrs.
Anticipated Commencement Date: early 2009

Label: 2 PhD positions in Creative Design, beasiswa, International Research Scholarship, NorwegiaThe Norwegian School of Economics and Business
Administration (NHH) are pleased to announce the availability of a
limited number of PhD Research Scholarships. These scholarships are available for the five specialisations in the PhD programme at NHH: Accounting and Auditing, Economics, Finance, Management Science and Strategy and Management. Each scholarshipis for a period of four years and combines taking the PhD programme at NHH with working as a PhD scholar. PhD scholars are required to work as a teaching and/or research assistantfor the department they are admitted to on enrolling in the PhD programme. The work load is 25%, with the remaining 75% being dedicated to the successful completion of a PhD.

The scholarships are subject to Norwegian taxes and benefits, including
health care provision and membership of the Norwegian Public Service
Pension Fund.
Applicants must fulfil the admission requirements of the PhD programme.
Qualified applicants with research proposals that fit best with the
research interests of the departments concerned will be prioritised.
The prioritised research areas within Accounting and Auditing,
Economics, Finance, Management Science and Strategy and Management are
outlined in the programme information provided for each of the five PhD
specialisations. In the event of equivalent qualifications, female
applicants will be given preference.
Further information about the PhD programme and admissions requirements can be found at www.nhh.no/phd. Enquiries regarding admission requirements, PhD Research Scholarships, application procedures, and so on, may be directed to the PhD admission office at NHH: phd@nhh.no.

PhD positions on sparse tensor approximation methods for high-dimensional transport
problems
The Seminar for Applied Mathematics of ETH Zuerich
(http://www.sam.math.ethz.ch/)offers a full PhD position in the
framework of a project on "Sparse Tensor Approximation Methods for
High-Dimensional Transport Problems".
Sparse tensor product approximations also known as sparse grids have
emerged as a powerful tool for the numerical treatment of
high-dimensional problems in areas as diverse as quantitative finance,
deterministic methods for stochastic PDEs, and data mining. The area
is still rapidly evolving and offers fascinating research
opportunities. Researchers at the Seminar for Applied Mathematics of
ETH Zuerich are among the leaders in the field.
In this project sparse tensor product approximation is to be explored
as a novel approach to kinetic equations, see
http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.jcp.2008.02.025 . The PhD project will
have a focus on efficient algorithms and data structures, which is
an exciting challenge in its own right. The PhD work will be jointly
supervised by Prof. C. Schwab and Prof. R. Hiptmair.
The positions is temporary and limited to 3-4 years after a three
month period of probation. The holder will be regular ETH research
staff and receive a gross salary of roughly 66,000 Swiss Francs (about
EUR 41.000, USD 55.000). The positions will involve teaching of
tutorial lectures, supervision of undergraduate students, and grading
of examinations equivalent to a total workload of about 10h/week.
Candidates must have a master or diploma degree in mathematics, a
(computational) engineering discipline, or in (computational) science.
Their education record should indicate strong interest and exceptional
skills in computer simulation as well as familiarity with important
numerical methods for the approximate solution partial differential
equations (finite elements, finite volumes, etc.). Experience with
object oriented programming in C++ is essential.
Knowledge of German is not required, but the candidates must possess
good communication skills and should be fluent in English, both oral
and in writing.
Applications should be sent electronically (as PDF files) to Ms.
Ballarin (ballarin@sam.math.ethz.ch). They must include
* a curriculum vita complete with date of birth and family status
* a complete record of academic education including grades and all
achievements.
* abstracts of theses (master etc.) and descriptions of projects done
before graduation. (include theses, reports and papers, if possible)
* Complete addresses (including e-mail) of two established academic
researchers who can give an assessment of the candidate's skills.
Deadline: March 31, 2009 (position may be filled on a first come first
served basis)
