The Department of Computer Science at the University of Bath invites
applications for a studentship to work on a project entitled *”Supporting
collaboration across people, policy and systems: a framework for evaluating
collaborative technologies in operational NEC”* funded as part of the
EPSRC/BAE Systems NECTISE (Networked Enabled Capability Through Innovative
Systems Engineering) project. The research will form part of the Decision
Support theme of the project, with specific focus on aspects of
collaboration and interaction in systems. In particular, it will seek to
develop models of contextual awareness that can be used in the design and
assessment of collaborative systems.

The successful candidate will form part of a world-leading centre for
research in Human Computer Systems at Bath under the direction of Prof Peter
Johnson, with a vibrant community of postgraduate and postdoctoral
researchers. We conduct an extensive programme of research that includes;
interaction modelling, theories and methods for user interface evaluation,
autonomous and safety-critical systems, distributed interaction,
participatory design, computer-supported cooperative work, computer-mediated
communication, creativity, and cognitive information processing in
interactive systems. Active application areas include ubiquitous computing,
aircraft flight deck design and evaluation, healthcare informatics and
telemedicine, collaborative virtual environments, e-commerce, groupware, and
generation of help and explanation facilities.

To be considered for the studentship you should have an undergraduate and/or
masters degree in Psychology, Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction
or a related discipline, and have outstanding research potential. Informal
enquiries may be made to Dr Neil Carrigan or Prof
Peter Johnson

The studentship will pay fees at the home student rate and provide a stipend
at the standard EPSRC rate (currently £12600) for three years from September
2007. Direct research expenses will also be covered. Security clearance
considerations will be borne in mind in selecting the person for the
studentship.

An application form may be downloaded from
http://www.bath.ac.uk/prospectus/postgrad/pdf/appnform.pdf

The closing date for applications is Monday 18th June 2007. Interviews will
take place on Thursday 28th June 2007
