“Glass Corrosion: Parameter estimation in reaction diffusion problems involving ionic species with limited data”

An EPSRC Industrial CASE studentship is available in collaboration with Pilkington Group Limited and the Mathematics Knowledge Transfer Network. The studentship will be based at Imperial College, London in the Department of Materials and will be supervised by the Head of Department, Professor Bill Lee and Dr Paul Tangney, who has recently transferred from Lawrence
Berkeley Laboratory. In addition, mathematical support on inverse problems will be provided by Dr Daniel Lesnic from the Department of Applied Mathematics at the University of Leeds.

An individual with a first degree in any of the scientific disciplines with significant mathematical content and strong interest in mathematical modelling of physical process will be considered for this opportunity but an interest in instrumental surface analysis methods is also desirable.
EPSRC CASE studentships are restricted to UK citizens or individuals ‘normally resident’ in the UK for the past 3 years. This studentship will be provided at the standard EPSRC rate of a bursary of 14,600 GBP per year and home level fees.

Although the studentship will be available to students who wish to start later, we are particularly interested in anyone who wishes to commence in or before October 2007.

For the academic year 2007/2008 there are two selection phases.

The first selection has been closed at the end of April and five scholarships have been
assigned (3 by the Ph.D. in Economics and 2 by the Ph.D. in Sociology).

In this second selection, there will be 12 scholarships, assigned as following:
Ph.D. in Economics – 4 scholarships
Ph.D. in Labour Studies – 3 scholarships
Ph.D. in Political Studies – 3 scholarship
Ph.D. in Sociology – 2 scholarships.

Up to eight of these twelve scholarships can be designated to non EU applicants.

This selection will offer also 16 positions without scholarship.

Candidates that already applied in the first stage may re-apply for this second selection.
The admission committee will be the same of the first selection for every Ph.D. programme.

Detail Beasiswa : PhD Candidate in Environmental Economics, Emissions Trading and Climate Change

INTRODUCTION
The Environmental Policy Research Group within the School of Geography, Planning and Environmental Policy, UCD Dublin (http://www.ucd.ie/gpep/gpepinfo/) is a leading centre of research into the integration of environment and development. One strand of our work focuses on understanding how to mobilize markets to conserve environmental endowments and control green house gas emissions. We are seeking a PhD candidate in Environmental Economics to join our team.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The successful candidate will contribute to the research project “The EU Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS) and the Greening of Technology”, funded by the Irish Environmental Protection Agency. This project undertakes the analysis of the effects of the EU Emission Trading scheme on the technology available to firms across the European Union, with special emphasis on Irish firms. Through the use of an array of econometric techniques and a variety of different types of data, it proposes to investigate all phases of the process of technological change: invention, innovation, and diffusion. Identifying the key elasticities and the fundamental drivers of the process of technical change, this project aims at providing a fundamental contribution to inform the current debate on the review of the EU ETS and the post-Kyoto policy alternatives. This study will also contribute to an ex post analysis of the pilot phase of EU ETS, in which study UCD Dublin is in partnership with MIT and Caisse des Dépôts, Paris.

TERMS
The position provides a 3-year scholarship covering tuition fees, conference and related travel, together with an annual stipend of €17,500. Additional coursework in the Department of Economics and elsewhere will be undertaken depending on the interests, skills and needs of the candidate. The research will take place in an excellent working environment and a very positive ethos and social atmosphere.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
The candidate should have successfully completed a Master’s degree in Economics or a related area, have a solid background in statistical/econometrics techniques, and a good competence in written and spoken English.

The positions are in the research programme on “Development and Food Policy”. One of the scholarships will be for research on the political economy of standards and regulation.

LICOS is a research centre of excellence at the University of Leuven, focusing on empirical analysis of institutional change and economic performance. PhD Program at the Faculty

Division of Social Sciences, School of Law and Social Sciences

Applications are invited for three full-time research studentship in the Division of Social Sciences, Glasgow Caledonian University. The studentships are for three years, subject to satisfactory progress, and cover fees together with a stipend of £13,500 per annum (subject to revision). Students in receipt of a studentship are expected to contribute up to six
hours per week unpaid teaching (including preparation and marking) or equivalent duties during term time. Registration is for MPhil in the first instance, with a transfer to PhD at a later stage.

The three projected areas of research are: Maternal Health and Welfare in the West of Scotland, 1918-1940; Industrial welfare in central Scotland, 1918-1940; Disability and the ‘Civilising Process’ - the Historical Transformation of Impairment into Disability.
